India's no.1 online shopping sites Amazon and Flipkart is planning to increase the sales of smartphone in india, since the most of the revenue comes from the smartphone sales. So they are trying new tricks to push up the sales of top branded smartphones in india.
Flipkart is expanding the list of small towns it serves and promising deliveries within a day and half, even during the peak festive season. Rival Amazon is partnering with telecom carriers to set up in-store demo zones to give consumers a touch and feel of some phone models and then help them make the purchase online.
Online sales have stayed around 33% of the total retail smartphone market for nearly a year now, as the price differential with offline mostly disappeared with ecommerce players cutting back on discounts. To be sure, the volume of smartphones they sell is increasing in absolute numbers in an expanding market.
But increasing the market share is also critical for the likes of Flipkart and Amazon to boost their overall growth in this market. Though analysts and smartphone industry executives say it would now be more difficult for the online players, the ecommerce companies are upbeat about the potential.
Flipkart believes the online segment is capable of capturing a 40-50% share of the smartphone market by the end of 2019. The offline market cannot provide the kind of services that ecommerce sellers offer, said Ayyappan Rajagopal, the senior director of smartphones at the Bengaluru-based company.
