Idea is working on to launch VOLTE services in India by early months of 2018. By launching VoLTE, Idea joins with Airtel and Reliance jio. Idea Cellular said that it will introduce voice over LTE (VoLTE) services on its 4G LTE network by early calendar year 2018, besides deploying 4G network using 2300 MHz and 2500 MHz spectrum band in five of its leadership markets during the current financial year.
Idea's bigger rival Bharti Airtel's managing director (India and South Asia), Gopal Vittal on Wednesday said that the telco will nationally launch 4G VoLTE services by the end of FY18, with trials underway in 5-6 key markets.
Bharti Airtel is working with Nokia for the deployment of VoLTE service. Idea Cellular previously said that it was in talks with telecom gear vendors for the introduction of VoLTE service.
Reliance Jio is currently the sole operator which offers voice service using the VoLTE technology across the country. It recently launched JioPhone, a VoLTE feature phone, to tap mass market and increase its base in the country.
Idea said that the deployment of 2300 MHz and 2500 MHz spectrum band will further boost Idea’s 4G capacity in these key markets.
